About Us

Our history

In the Autumn of 1986, the Holy Spirit pressed Nehemiah 2:5 on the heart of seminary student Myron Mooney, that he should go to the city of his fathers' sepulchers to build a church. The conviction of this verse was confirmed during a visit to his parents’ home in Alabama when a dear young mother came to Christ following a Bible study.

On a snowy Wednesday night on January 6,1988, the first midweek prayer meeting took place. Soon God supplied a building on Central Parkway in Decatur for the new church plant to meet. For the next 7 years, the fledging work grew from two young families to 65 people. Providentially losing that building in early Autumn, 1995, the congregation met in various buildings and even outdoors for the services. By October, 1995, the Lord provided the present building in Trinity to rent.

A year later, Mr. Tim Yarbrough recommended that the "mixed multitude" be taught Separated unto the Gospel. As that study commenced so did the exodus of most of the congregation. Only 22 people remained to become Free Presbyterians. On March 17, 2002, the church was constituted, and Myron Mooney was ordained and installed as the first minister of the congregation. Dr. Ian Paisley came to preach on that wonderful occasion! The young congregation was able to purchase the building in the following two years, and the complete renovation of the whole complex began.

In the ensuing years, the Lord has pruned and grown the congregation, both spiritually and numerically. A generation of young people have grown up to now see a second generation of young people sitting under the sound of the Gospel. Truly, Trinity Free Presbyterian Church shines atop Trinity Mountain to be light for truth!

"This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes" (Psalm 118:23).
